What’s New?

We Are Very Excited To Announce – NP Kelly Burke has joined the KLMC Team!

Kelly is currently the one provider at KLMC accepting new patients to her Family Practice. We are thrilled that she has joined our team, and we know patients and the Nelson community will be as well.

About Nurse Practitioners and their Role in Primary Care

  • Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are registered nurses who have successfully completed a master’s level NP program and met BCCNM (British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives) registration requirements.
  • NPs are primary care providers who practice in a variety of settings, including Primary Care in Community Family Practices (i.e. Kootenay Lake Medical Clinic)
  • NPs assess and treat diseases and disorders by prescribing, ordering diagnostic services and managing results, and consulting with, and referring to other health care providers.
  • NPs practice in one of three “streams”, which include family, adult, or pediatrics, and within the NP Scope of Practice. NPs often work within multidisciplinary teams that complement each other to improve patient care (i.e Kootenay Lake Medical Clinic)
